A funny thing happened at the start of chemo. Two women sat next to each other in the most unlikely place to make a lifelong friend and instantly bonded. Theresa Flowers and Susan Mayer-McHugh were now experiencing the cancer journey together. Through endless conversations and lots of cups of coffee, they both discovered their passion for giving back to the cancer community and together formed Pink Ribbon Associates (www.pinkribbongift.com). Theresa was diagnosed the week of her 47th birthday. Her diagnosis was Stage 2b, with 3 out of 19 lymph nodes being malignant. She had a mastectomy, with immediate reconstruction, and began her treatment towards recovery with chemotherapy, radiation and an additional year of Herceptin, plus hormone therapy. Theresa is married, has 2 sons and lives in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. She looks forward to a happy and very fulfilling life kayaking, camping and working on their charity projects.
Sue was diagnosed the week of her 57th birthday, which was also the week of Thanksgiving. She was Stage 1, Grade 2, no lymph node involvement and clear margins. Because one of the tests came back questionable, her oncologist recommended she have a test called OncotypeDX which showed the chances of spread and reoccurrence from the date of diagnosis through 10 years. She came out in the highest percentile. She went through a lumpectomy, chemotherapy, radiation and an additional year of Herceptin, plus hormone treatment. Sue lives in Shamong, New Jersey, with her husband and she loves spending time with her son and his 4 children and her daughter and her 2 sons. Sue is very excited about working with Theresa on their new and promising venture.
